The camp letter

You are welcome to the Let's get musical-international camp held in Eurajoki, Finland. Here is some detailed information about the camp.

Date: 14.-21.7.2007

Location:
Camp will be held in Eurajoki Christian Folk High School which offers beautiful accommodation only 2, 5 kilometers away from Eurajoki center. Rooms, where participants stay, are for 2-3 people. Almost every room has own toilet and shower. Some rooms share toilet and shower. A tactile map of the camp area has been sent to your group leader. Activities and dining are held in other buildings and outdoors.

Eurajoki is very small village around 240km from Helsinki to the West coast. Nearest town, harbour town Rauma is c. 15 km away and Pori 37 km. During the camp we will visit both of towns. From Eurajoki you can find little shops for food, drinks etc. but not anything bigger.

Information about Finland:
Finland is said to be a country of thousand lakes and it its very true, because we have lot’s of beautiful lakes here and forests also. Finland's population is about 5, 2 million people. Currency here is Euro and we recommend you to take care of your money exchange in your home country or at the airport. You might have heard that Finland is a very cold country with snow and ice, especially in the winter, but in the summer our weather is usually quite warm. However the weather can change a lot from sunny and warm to cold and rainy, so you should be prepared with warm clothes and an umbrella.

Arrival to Finland:
On Monday (14.7.) we have transportation from the airport to Eurajoki by bus. Meeting place and time will be agreed with group leaders after we know your departure times. On Saturday (21.7.) we’ll have bus transportation back to airport.

Participants:
Countries participating on Let's get musical-camp are Finland, Estonia, Italy, Germany, Iceland, Latvia and Poland. We also have a couple participants from Spain. Official camp language is English. You’ll find a list of participants in the end of this letter.

Program:
As you know, the program at the camp is around music and you have chosen beforehand either singing or band. Participants will be divided into five bands, and each band has an opportunity to practice their performance every day. The program consists of voluntary workshops, where others can choose what they like to do, while others are practicing their performance. You’ll choose your workshops for the next day every evening. There are also different kinds of evening programs, international evening, open camp fire and an opportunity to go to Finnish sauna. At the last night we’ll organise concert where all the bands and singing groups will perform.

As a group each country should prepare beforehand some evening programs.
War of cooks: Think one traditional food recipe of your country. Something which is possible and quite easy for others to cook/make in about 1-1,5 hours. One evening we’ll have a war of cooks, where each country will get recipe of other country to make.
International evening: As a group think something for entertaining the others. It would be nice if it is something from your country.

PORI JAZZ
On Thursday 19.7. we will do day trip to Pori Jazz festival. Pori Jazz festival is very big music festival in Finland. There are lots of different concerts around Pori in that time. Some of them are with free entrance and some are chargeable. We have tickets for Kirjurinluoto Arena where artist on that day are Al Foster, Gilberto Gil, Natalie Cole and Paul Anka. Kirjurinluoto Arena is the main stage of the festival. The amphitheatre type of setting allows you to have a nice picnic while enjoying great music. There is a variety of services available, including large restaurant tents and many different stands offering food, drinks, clothing, and cds.

You can also visit other parts of Pori for example on Jazz Street, which is
alive day and night with thousands of people, many different bars and restaurants and live music. The Jazz Street offers a hundred different kiosks and stands. Half way through the Jazz Street near the walking bridge, you can find the Radio Nova Stage featuring several free concerts and acts every day.

In Pori Jazz we may have a possibility to meet guitar player Teemu Viinikainen, who will answer our questions and tell more about his career as musician. Read more about this person: http://www.teemuviinikainen.com/en_html/index.shtml
